Holiday in the Woods/Posada

Spring Woods middle school celebrated its first Holiday in the Woods/Posada where we showcased all of our students talents!  We had performances from Choir, Orchestra and Band. Culinary arts distributed delicious caramelized nuts and hot apple cider! Spanish hosted Loteria games with prizes and they created small traditional posada piƱatas! Athletics hosted fun games! Art had beautiful art pieces along the hall ways. Students decorated the school to give it the awesome festive feel! PTSA sold goodies! Student Council managed the Holiday Hawk store where students were able to purchase items with their hard earned positive behavior Hawk bucks! For those that could not attend we have photos for you to see how fun our time was. At SWMS we value family and want to bring more events like this for the entire school and community to enjoy so please look out for our next events starting in January 2018!

Lastly we want to give huge thanks to the community companies that donated to SWMS Holiday in the Woods!
Home depot donated holiday decoration and light which made a huge difference in festive experience!
HEB donated sandwich trays to Holiday in the Woods! Our families were left grateful and satiated!
Olive garden thank you for the gift card, which was offered at the Holiday Hawk store. One of our students paid with their Hawk bucks and will be able to give that as a gift to their family!

Thank you teachers, staff and students that shared their time and creativity in contributing to the success of Holiday in the Woods/Posada!

Hurricane Harvey Donations

Hurricane Harvey has affected all of us in the Houston area greatly, but our city has not been the only ones affected. Students from Lewis Frazier Middle school in Hinesville, Georgia have been galvanized to help our community. After Harvey, they reached out to us at Spring Woods Middle School and have asked us how they can help. They have attentively listened to our needs and have been coordinating a donation drive for the last month. As of Friday, they have shipped us 16 BOXES of much needed items for our families!  We want to give an enormous thank you the students of Lewis Frazier Middle school. We are proud of your big hearts!!! SWMS families, please know, we are still here to help those in need. Call us and we will find a way to help.

Houston Center for Photography visits SWMS

Girls’ Own Stories is an original HCP program that focuses on boosting self-esteem and academic achievement for girls ages eight through thirteen. This spring, HCP held three sessions of Girls’ Own Stories at Highland Heights Elementary School, Spring Woods Middle School and Spring Oak Middle School. In addition to learning photography and discussing topics such as self-esteem, the students also saw the work from the HCP exhibition, Her Feet Planted Firmly on the Ground. During the program, students created self-portraits, collage art and other photo-based projects all as an expression of girlhood. This online exhibition is a culmination of all their hard work over the past semester.
